Abstract:
During the repair works at industrial plants, there are the parts that suffered damage, deterioration due to use or failure and must be replaced. One of the most common procedures in connection with the new parts to existing structural elements is the welding process. The welding process often leads to the appearance of local deformations and residual stresses. The mere appearance of local deformations and residual stresses can significantly affect the behavior of structures during the process of service. In this paper, we presented the issue of connecting the structural elements with different material properties. Detailed analysis is focused on determining the residual stress distribution in welded pipelines, which are often encountered in power plants. For this purpose, numerical method, primarily referring to finite element method (FEM), is used for the conducting of thermo-mechanical analysis and determination residual stresses.
