Determination of residual stresses in tubular welded structural components

Abstract:
Numerical simulation of welding process with an example of two tubes of both same and different steel materials properties have been carried out in this paper. It is shown that the residual stress field and temperature field are symmetric in case of welding same materials, while in case of welding materials with different thermo-mechanical properties they are asymmetric. So, it can be concluded that beside thermo-mechanical properties of material, pipe diameter and pipe wall thickness can also influence the asymmetry of residual stress and temperature field.
